COX NOC positions Open
As some of you know, I'm a network engineer for COX Communications.

I just found out there are two openings in the NOC.  One is for wireless, and the other is a Data Specialist.

The Data Specialist job is basically an entry level, glorified ticket monkey.   :)   The specs are:

THIS POSITION IS FOR A NIGHT SHIFT (8 NIGHTS ON AND 6 NIGHTS OFF, 9 PM TO 7 AM)

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Track and perform analysis on the reporting network elements.  Track and follow up on trouble tickets, remote interactions, and dispatch notification.

Typical Training / Experience - HS diploma, GED or relevant work experience; Specialized skill training/certification may be required; 2-5 years of experience in area of responsibility required

Knowledge - Demonstrates basic knowledge of a technical or specialty area; Readily learns and applies new information/concept in area of practice

REPORTS TO:   Sr. Manager - Network Surveillance

SUMMARY OF POSTITION:

Responsible for remote monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the integrity of the COX Wireless network and its vital elements.  This position resides within the 24 x 7 Network Operations Center (NOC) and is responsible for providing carrier class customer support to internal and external wireless services subscribers.  Perform scheduled maintenance that could include software upgrades and/or patches as well as off hours testing.  Maintain control of all network elements within Cox's communication network via the Network Operation Center (NOC) support platform.  Instruct/direct field personnel through problem resolution.  Track, perform, and report detailed analysis associated with any wireless network incidents and outage conditions.  Coordinate uniform application of system corrections throughout Cox's network.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ability to troubleshoot network problems with minimal or no exposure of physically being in front of the equipment and still recommend isolation and resolution measures.
2. Coordinate network outage restoration activities and follow-up on all outage incidents.
3. Open, Update, and Resolve Trouble Tickets in a timely manner
4. Create and update outage notifications for network issues
5. Direct and instruct field personnel on problem resolution.
6. Interface with other departments on service problems and follow through to resolution.
7. Notify/follow-up with Customer Care and Dispatch on network problems.
8. Follow documented policies, procedures, and directives
9. Understanding of various Data network elements such as Cisco, Juniper routers
10. Understanding of HLR, SMSC, MMSC, WAP Gateway, Email, and Voicemail

QUALIFICATIONS:

- 4 year college degree or equivalent telecommunications
- 5+ years experience working in the wireless telecommunications industry is required, preferably within a Wireless NOC environment.
- An excellent understanding of  technology standards and specifications related to wireless networking, digital switching, DWDM/SONET transmissions systems, network management, and/or related telecommunications systems is required.
- Successful candidate must be familiar with Microwave Design & Operations as well as RF Propagation processes.
- Must be able to direct and instruct field personnel through technical resolution of problems.
- Excellent written and oral communications, analytical, and problem solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point)

Typical Training / Experience - HS diploma, GED or relevant work experience; Technical certification or Associates degree may be preferred and/or required in some areas; 5-7 years of experience in related area of responsibility

Dept/Org Scope & Impact - Senior support roles highly experienced in area of responsibility; Performs all of the standard and some specialized more complex aspects of the function; increases department or area impact

Problem Complexity - Applies advanced skills to resolve complex problems independently; May modify processes to resolve situations

Autonomy - Under limited supervision, relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine best approach to achieve desired outcomes. ...I can say that I really have enjoyed working at COX for the last 2+ years.  Best job environment I've ever had.   I highly suggest you give it a shot, if you are qualified / interested.

Almost anybody is qualified for the Data Specialist II position. What's the holdup?

Not a clue. But, we do have full benefits packages. Insurance, etc... So, you have to take that into account also.
